Friends Youth Group
8th-12th Grades

What if you could make the world a better place and have your best friends there, too?

Friends is not a traditional church youth group. Here’s how it works.

  1. Invite a friend, somebody you think would enjoy making the world a better place, somebody you would like your CUCC friends to meet.
  2. Together we’ll serve the community and have fun!

That’s it.

FAQ’s

What kinds of things will we do? The members of Friends choose the activities. Here are some ideas that have already been suggested.

  • Doing the Walk for Hope (benefits people with mental illness)
  • Helping at the SPCA
  • Helping at the ASA auction (benefits people with AIDS)
  • Packaging food at Stop Hunger Now!
  • Visiting/performing for folks at a nursing home
  • Running the Marketplace Café (which will help us raise money, too)
  • Wrapping presents for parents of low-income children to give at Christmas

Those are all service projects. Will we ever just have fun? Absolutely. Interested in checking out international festivals, swimming, skating, going bowling? We can cheer each other on at sports events and enjoy each other’s drama and music performances. High on the list is a trip to the beach. Sound like fun to you?

Does my friend have to be a Christian? No. Friends is about service and fun, not about trying to push anyone to believe a certain way. CUCC is a Christian church and we won’t hide that. But we have a long tradition of honoring the faiths and values of others. And we’re curious – we like to learn about what others believe. So, each member of Friends is welcome to share how his or her faith or values strengthen a commitment to service. But nobody is going to be told what to believe.

Can I come if I don’t bring a friend? Of course!

When do we start? We’ll start in September. Check the CUCC newsletter or contact Jane Smith.
