Worship at CUCC
The Taizé Service is a quiet, contemplative service that typically includes songs and chants, scripture readings, brief prayers, and a substantial silent time for meditation. The Taize service is planned and led by a lay group from the congregation on a rotating basis. Musical leadership is varied with guitar, organ, hammered dulcimer, and piano employed from one week to the next. The 10:30 am main sanctuary service combines elements common in most American Protestant worship services with some reflecting particular Community UCC traditions and values.
The call to worship, welcoming of visitors, prayer of invocation, and scripture readings occur while the children are present with their families. These are followed by the children's story, after which the children and youth go to their church school classes.
During the 10:30 am sanctuary service, open prayer time, hymns, and responses sung by the congregation provide opportunity for participation and reflection on the theme of the day. Dialog sermons involving one of the pastors and others from the congregation, sermon and sermon-substitutes done by the Wider Outreach Committee, the AIDS Care Team, the Youth Groups, the Church School Children, chancel drama, and lengthier musical presentations add variety to the expression of God's Word. Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at the 10:30 am sanctuary service. During the week, regular scheduled worship opportunities include the following.
