Community
United Church of Christ is located at the corner of Dixie Trail and
Wade Avenue. (See location
map for Community UCC.) Our membership comes from diverse faith backgrounds,
people seeking a church home that supports doing what they believe that
Christ teaches: to proclaim in word and action the gospel of Jesus Christ;
to work for reconciliation and the unity of the broken body of Christ;
and to seek justice and liberation for all. Since its establishment,
Community UCC has been a faithful community leader in addressing social
justice issues such as desegregation, elimination of the death penalty,
fair treatment of migrant laborers, the inclusion of homosexual persons
in Christian churches, protecting the environment, elimination of domestic
and international violence and the accomplishment of world peace. We
seek to understand the guidance of the Bible for today’s world
and to have the courage to act on that guidance. In these efforts, we
truly are community for each other. We are affiliated with the United
Church of Christ. We are one of many Progressive
Churches in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area.
We encourage you to visit with us. At 9:00 on Sunday
mornings there is a 30-minute Taize service in the sanctuary, a time of
prayers, scripture, chant song and quiet reflection. Many participants
find this meditative style of worship to be very healing and helpful in
restoring spiritual balance in the midst of the stresses of life. Our
traditional church service is at 10:30-11:45 am. Church school and child
care are available during the worship service. We have fellowship time
in the fellowship hall after church to meet visitors and to talk with
each other.
From 9:15 to 10:15 (except during summer months) is the
Sunday Morning Forum, a series of one-hour discussions on public policy
issues of Christian and social concern. Speakers are drawn from a rich
collection of scholars from universities and leaders from government,
religious and community organizations. The Forum meets in the Vaughn Fellowship
Hall. Information on the forum (including topics) can usually be found
in the church
newsletter.
Our telephone number is (919) 787-6422. Someone is in
the office from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
