Community Outreach Ministry

“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also”

James 2:26

The church’s constitution calls for the Community Outreach Ministry (COM) to introduce
the congregation to opportunities to serve in local, state and national communities, as well as the wider United Church of Christ.

COM’s outreach budget provides financial support to over a dozen local nonprofit agencies. to the UCC’s national and statewide conferences, and to the Church’s Wider Mission.

In addition to financial support, Church members volunteer their time, energy, and talent to agencies such as RICH Park Apartments, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Method Child Development Center, Aids Care, CROP Walk, Urban Ministries’ food bags.

Another opportunity to support local nonprofit organizations occurs each year close to the Christmas season when CUCC opens Vaughn Fellowship Hall to the Marketplace of Meaningful Gifts, where community agencies  interpret their programs and offer alternate
ways to observe the Christmas season.

Each year the COM leads the congregation in supporting One Great Hour of Sharing and in offerings to Neighbors In Need.

In these many ways CUCC, through its Community Outreach Ministry, is living up to the
scripture according to James with its good works, so that its faith may live.

“What doth it profit, my brethern, though a man say he hath faith, and not have works?”

James 2:13
