Welcome
Home

Our membership comes from diverse faith backgrounds, people seeking a church home that supports doing what they believe that Christ teaches: to proclaim in word and action the gospel of Jesus Christ; to work for reconciliation and the unity of the broken body of Christ; and to seek justice and liberation for all.

To help make your visit easier, we’ve tried to answer the questions we’ve had when we’ve visited churches in other cities. If after looking at these answers you haven’t found all of the information you need, please call Carol at the church office at (919) 787-6422. Or leave a message and we’ll call back.

No matter who you are
or where you are on life’s journey,
you’re welcome here.

We hope you’ll join us after worship so we can meet you. After the 10:30 traditional service, we gather for shade-grown, Fair Trade coffee and nibbles in the Vaughan Fellowship Hall or on the playground.

About Community United Church of Christ

Since its establishment, Community United Church of Christ has sought to be a faithful community leader in addressing social justice issues and meeting the everyday needs of people. Especially challenging to us has been the dream of the end of segregation and of the inclusion in churches of all people regardless of sexual orientation. We continue to look for concrete steps toward eliminating domestic and international violence while working toward the accomplishment of world peace. Along with these, we continue to work for the elimination of the death penalty, the fair treatment of migrant and food industry laborers, and the care of the environment. As important as what we do together are the commitments we live in our families, through our jobs (paid and unpaid), and in our neighborhoods.

To undergird this justice mission we turn to the spiritual traditions for wisdom, strength and courage. Centered in worship together on Sunday morning, we practice these skills in small groups during the week. Study of scripture and of the writings of others, Tai Chi, prayer, the arts, and times for retreat keep us growing. Regular times of fellowship and acts of caretaking for one another keep us hopeful. Our membership comes from diverse faith backgrounds and we are strengthened by the insights and questions brought from our varied journeys.

We see ourselves as one part of the body of Christ and one member in God’s family. We are affiliated with the United Church of Christ (God is still speaking!) and are one of many Progressive Churches in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area. We are members of the Interfaith Alliance and the North Carolina Council of Churches. Because God’s family stretches into the future, we do our best to raise up the next generation of spiritually-seeking, justice people through our church school, youth groups, and intergenerational activities

We seek to understand the guidance of the Bible for today’s world and to have the courage to act on that guidance. In these efforts, we truly are community for each other.
