| “Taking the five loaves and two fish [given by the boy], he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all. And all ate and were filled; and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men [and their families].” – a story told about Jesus in the gospels written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

What does the Stewardship Ministry do?
We assist the Council in its responsibility to ensure resources for the church’s ministries. Each winter we talk with members about how they would like to serve through the congregation, matching the talents and interests of members with the needs of the committees and ministries. We assemble the budget each fall from requests from ministries and committees. We raise money through the fall stewardship campaign and periodic fundraisers throughout the year. The Assistant Treasurer tracks member donations and provides tax statements every January. The Treasurer pays the bills, reimburses expenses, and tracks the cash flow.
How do I offer my talents to the congregation?
The Nominating Committee matches people with opportunities to serve.
Annual pledge drive
Each autumn the congregation is invited to make a financial pledge toward the next year’s ministries. Knowing the pledge total assists the Stewardship Ministry in preparing a budget proposal for the next fiscal year. No one is required to pledge, but having this estimate of available funds allows the ministries of the church to make wise decisions as they plan. Your pledge amount is seen by the Assistant Treasurer and no one else. If you have questions about the status of your gifts or your tax letter, contact her. If you find yourself unable for any reason to fulfill a pledge, simply contact her so she doesn’t worry about you.
How does my committee get a fundraiser approved?
Most of the work of the congregation is funded through the fall stewardship drive and the two Stewardship fundraisers. A few traditional missions are “off budget” which means members are invited to contribute money or items to them directly. The Stewardship Ministry reviews requests for new off budget fundraisers in order to help the congregation prioritize its work. If your committee/group would like to solicit items or money for a new project, contact the Stewardship Ministry for their go-ahead.
What do you like about serving on the Stewardship Ministry?
“I like it because it does offer people a straightforward way to participate in the life of the church and show their appreciation for what the church means to them. I like having the chance to do something which is doable.” - Fawn |
