The communion table arrangements are a visual interpretation of the theme for worship. Some arrangers choose to use flowers and greenery from their gardens. Others share special collections: shells or candles or driftwood. Imagine piles of canned food, hand-painted key pegs for Habitat families, crafts from around the world, or barbed wire encircling a wooden cross.

In observance of Reformation Sunday, the communion table depicts the three pillars of the Protestant Reformation: justification by faith, the authority of scripture, and the priesthood of all believers.

What does the Sacraments and Chancel Committee do?
We’re in charge of preparing the sanctuary for worship. We create the communion table arrangements and set up for communion. We choose the banners to go with the worship theme and change the cloths (“paraments”) to go with the church year. We attend to the Prayer Jar table in the narthex. During Advent we coordinate the Hanging of the Greens – a morning spent decorating the sanctuary and two Christmas trees. At Easter we prepare the Resurrection Cross for the flowers which members will bring.
How do you connect to the larger church?
We are a committee of the Deacons Ministry.
Why do you like serving on this committee?
“I like to be creative with flowers. My mother loved growing flowers; she always had beautiful bouquets around the house. I guess I associate what I’m doing with my mother.” Sally Cook
