What does the Communications Committee do?
We maintain the 13 communication tools (below) which help CUCC members stay in touch and be involved. Most of our planning/decision making happens online, so we don't have meetings.
How do you connect to the rest of the church?
We are a committee of the Welcoming, Fellowship and Growth Ministry.
What do people like about serving on the Communications Committee?
“I had never thought deeply about the ways clear and timely communication builds relationship and supports ministry. Now I see this work as ministry more than task. Besides, I've had a chance to play with social networks old and new in the company of others at CUCC who are also discovering these tools.” - Jane
How do I get the word out at CUCC?
Each CUCC member has his or her favorite source of information, so think duplication of communication! Remember that we have two Sunday worship services and that our members span the dawn of the digital age.
Blog: Post details of upcoming events, changes or cancellations on the CUCC News and Chat blog. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the blog. If you wish to post information, ask Lavon Page to generate an invitation from Google which will allow you to become a contributor. Or ask Lavon or Jane to post the information for you.
Bulletin: Write 2 or 3 sentences and email them to the office no later than Thursday at 11 am, for the upcoming Sunday. The bulletin announcements are distributed at both the Taizé and 10:30 worship services.
Bulletin board: Make an eye-catching poster and place it on the appropriate bulletin board. Be sure to pencil a date it can be removed in one of the corners.
Bulletin insert: Make arrangements with the office two weeks ahead of time to have your committee’s insert included in the bulletin.
Calendar: Ask the office to put your event on the calendar at the CUCC website. This is the "official" schedule of events. If you're planning a CUCC event, your event should be on the calendar. (The calendar is also the system for reserving rooms.)
Email notice: Send your announcement to the office. We try not to flood members’ mailboxes so weigh whether this is something that could be conveyed another way. Email is great for last minute changes that might affect many members of the congregation.
Facebook: If you join Facebook, you can post your announcement on the Community United Church of Christ Facebook page.
Ministry Moment: Contact the Community Outreach Ministry to be put on the schedule. Ministry Moments are geared to highlight opportunities for the congregation to be involved in ministry within and beyond the congregation. You can check available dates on the Ministry Moment Calendar.
Narthex/fellowship table: Set up an informational table in the narthex or at Fellowship. To schedule the space, contact the office.
Newsletter: Write an article and email it to the office no later than the deadline – check the calendar.
Sunday morning announcement: These are rare and are best used for last minute changes. Contact Steve Halsted to ask him to make the announcement and give him the basic information in writing on Sunday morning.
Twitter: Twitter is now being used to announce "Things to Do" on the CUCC home page, and to share "Quick News" items on our News and Chat blog. Check the news items from Twitter on those pages. If posting news items like this is something you'd like to do, all you need is a Twitter account from twitter.com. Contact Lavon Page to learn how to get your tweets on the CUCC home page and blog.
Website: The CUCC website is a place to
- publicize your upcoming CUCC event
- report the work of your ministry or committee
- announce church news
- enlist help with church projects
- share ideas with other church members
and many other things. Contact the webmaster for help with publicity for your project.
Remember, duplicate your message. |
