Honoring Nancy Calliham

On August 26, 2007, this letter from the Board of Deacons was read by Deacons' Chair Sam Johnson during the 10:30 worship service. The letter thanks Nancy Calliham for her service as Interim Summer Pastor at CUCC during the summer of 2007.

Dear Nancy,

When Steve announced his sabbatical plans last fall, a collective sigh went through the Deacons in anticipation of filling the pastoral void. We are well aware that leading a church has facets beyond planning the Sunday service. Pastoral work runs the gamut from mending broken sinks to guiding broken souls. We were fairly confident of being able to arrange for Sunday sermons (CUCC does have a rich collection of spiritual folks who can deliver God's word), but the rest of the responsibilities seemed more daunting.

We at CUCC were indeed fortunate when you agreed to shepherd us through this summer season. But we didn't realize just how fortunate we were until the summer came.

You have truly listened to the needs of the CUCC congregation. You have shown constant care to those of us in need. Your management of worship services has been superb. Your attentiveness to the details of running the church office has made us forget how difficult that can be. We thank you for that.... and so much more.

We know you had help. But we also know you provided the foundation to make that help successful. Your guidance, your love, and your genuine care have made a big difference to the entire CUCC congregation. We have been truly blessed for the tangible grace you have delivered.

Yours in Christ,

Jo Perry, on behalf of the Board of Deacons
