What is a lectionary? The lectionary is a schedule for readings from the Bible to be used for personal study and in worship services. Most lectionaries run in three year cycles and relate to the rhythms of the church year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, Pentecost, ordinary time. These rhythms emphasize major events in the life of Jesus. The lectionary readings highlight those events and connect them to readings from the Hebrew scriptures, a psalm, and a writing from the early church.
